Progress

The blog is currently going well. To try and possibly get some feedback about it we have posted the link on the IDM facebook group page.

We have been looking at styles of photography over the last week and have been trying to break down photography to what it essentially is.

Jeff Wall creates art through photography. He took pictures of different elements and edited them together to create 'Sudden gust of wind' which looks like a captured moment in time but has been constructed to have that effect.

He was trying to recreate  this image by Hokusai, Photography here, is used to depict the artists own interpretation of a piece of art. Our use of photography is very different as we are actually trying to capture reality as realisticly as possibly. Because we have the theme of 'The Everyday' and have chosen to emphasise on food and what we eat using un-edited 'realistic' images helped us to show the imperfect side to food we all experience everyday.

Further planning

We have decided to include ideas about comodified media food culture vs the reality of food, (glamourised and de-glamoursied cooking), and also emphasise our unique audience of our product (young adults) - We have included two video bars, each showing adverts that present food and cooking in different ways. One of them shows M&S sexualised food adverts and the other the Lurpak adverts that present imperfect cooking. We thought adding these would not only enhance the image of our blog but also add to the message of our blog. We have chosen a specific kind of language to use on the blog in order to appeal to our audience. For example we used the name of a channel 4 programme called 'Dirty Sexy Things' as a pun to describe the contrast between imperfect home grown food to supermarket brand food products. We felt that this would add a slight humour element to present quite strong ideas.

Here is a print screen of the blog so far, on the right is the two video bars.

Hard to Define

Reading the article 'Questioning Everyday Life' confirmed the difficulty in defining this concept. Trying to define it brings up a 'vivid range of social difference' showing that everyday life is a very 'vague' term that depends on personal experience.

In order to express my own definition of 'everyday life' I created a Mood Board to present a visual idea of it. This will help us to think of themes for our photo and web project.

'On the Ground'

We were sent out to try out our photography skills and express our interpretations of a specific theme through photgraphy. We were given the phrase ' On the Ground'. My partener and I decided to take the phrase literally however we had an interesting logic behind what we photographed on the ground. We wanted to explore the idea of Nature vs Man made elements. These are the pictures we took.
